Scion xB Headlight Protection Film DIY Install
Step 1: Clean the lenses. Clean your hands. Make sure there are no residues from the cleaning process remaining on the lenses or your hands.
Without removing the lens cover from the backing paper hold it up to the lens and make sure you have the correct one / orientation (i.e. Slightly
ovoid lenses). If it is cool - below 65 degrees F gently warming the lens with a hair dryer will help things along. Wet down one lens with water -
a clean spray bottle / plant mister works great.
Step 2: If it is cool - below 65 degrees F gently warming the&material with a hair dryer will help things along. Carefully remove the
cover from the backing paper - handling the adhesive as little as possible - Use handling tabs when possible. Be careful not to let the outer 'fingers'
stick together. Mist down the adhesive side and gently place on the lens. Handling the edges align the inside vertical edge of the piece - (left side
of the photo) then generally align the remaining edges.
Step 3: The piece will be 'floating' on the beads of water on the lens. Be gentle the adhesive is pressure sensitive. Gently squeegee the
leading inch - as shown from right to left. Double check that the piece didn't shift. With alignment set repeat with firm pressure to make sure it is
set and bubble free.
Step 4: Generally align the upper and lower horizontal section - you want to make sure that the piece is centered top to bottom. Wet the surface
and squeegee firmly from the inner portion where you started to the outside bump out as show from left to right.
Step 5: Firmly squeegee up the bump out and down the outside to the end of the kit as shown. Align and gently squeegee the top and bottom 'finger'
of material. Once it is in place go over with firmer pressure to be sure the edges are sealed. With a sharp razor knife carefully trim off the handling
tabs. If you have any areas that are misaligned or overhanging you can either wrap the edge if it a flat surface or simply trim off the excess.
Done: Go over the edges with a suede detail cloth / paper towel wrapped squeegee to make sure the edge is fully set. Gentle heat from a hair dryer
on low can help things along if it is cool out. Note that on the xB the very top and bottom horizontal sections of the triangular bump out is not covered. The
transition is too strong for both DIY installability or long term adhesion if one was to get it muscled on as a seamless piece.
Now you are done, stand back and enjoy! With our GT Yellow protective headlight covers you will be able to change to look of your vehicle while protecting
your headlights from being sand-blasted to death. You can remove these at some point in the future if you are so inclined - though they can only be used once. Although
it is possible to install these mainly covers on the xB's mainly flat lens dry, we feel that the install is best done with some water as shown.
